SEN Coffee Morning
Today we held our fifth coffee and chat morning hosted by Mrs Green, our Pastoral Leader with a very informative talk given by Mrs Morgan our in house Speech, Language and Communication specialist. Invitations were extended to parents of children who have been identified as having EHCP's, My Support Plans or who are in receipt of external interventions, and often display challenging behaviour. The informal session was to help equip parents with simple tools to use at home to support their child along with useful advice on how to get the external help they need. This included where and how to complete referral forms, a bank of useful websites and a parent pack with a range of resources for help at home. We heard success stories from parents on how simple changes can trigger a rapid change in a child's ability to access the world and the tricks of the trade on how to enable improvement in speech sounds with raisins!
A regular parent to the group commented
"it's really good to have the opportunity to meet other parents in a similar situation. You don't feel so alone and can learn new methods and games to help support your child"
Two new parents said
"it was eye opening to see the broader picture and understand how my child sees things differently. I had not thought about that but can see I can do more things at home to help and get support from others as well as school"
If you feel your child may need support in Speech, Language or Communication please talk to Mrs Green in the first instance who will be happy to discuss and point you in the right direction.
